The basics

What is a LFRO?

Licensed for Referral Only — a simpler way to hold your real estate license.

A LFRO (Licensed-for-Referral-Only) arrangement lets a licensed agent park their license with a referral-only brokerage. Your license stays active and your continuing education stays current — but you're not actively practicing real estate day to day.

Instead of listing, showing, and writing contracts, you refer clients to active agents who handle the transaction. When a referral closes, you earn a referral fee. No NAR dues, no MLS fees, no active-practice overhead, no floor time — just your network, working for you.

01

Park your license

Move your active license to AREP as referral-only. You stay licensed; you stop actively practicing.

02

Keep your CE current

Maintain your continuing education so your license stays active and in good standing.

03

Refer your people

When someone in your network needs an agent, you send the referral to an active agent.

04

Earn referral fees

When the referral closes, you collect a referral fee — minus AREP's small share.

Why agents do it

The benefits

Everything you'd want from keeping your license — none of the overhead you wouldn't.

Keep your license active

Don't let years of work lapse. Stay licensed and in good standing without practicing full-time.

Monetize your network

The clients, friends, and past customers who still call you can become referral income.

One low flat cost

A single, predictable monthly membership — none of the dues and fees that come with active practice.

Skip the overhead

No National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) dues, no MLS fees, and none of the other costs of active practice — no floor time, no production quotas.

Fast, simple referrals

Sending a referral is the whole point — we keep the process quick and painless so you actually use it.

Come back anytime

Step back, go part-time, or pause on your terms. Your license stays active and parked with AREP, so you can transfer it back to Ashworth Real Estate (ARE) to practice again whenever you're ready — no re-licensing, no starting over.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I still buy or sell my own home?
Generally agents in a referral-only arrangement handle their personal real estate as ordinary buyers and sellers rather than as the practicing agent on the deal. Specifics depend on your situation and brokerage policy — ask us and we'll walk you through how it works at AREP.
What happens to my license?
Your license stays active and parked with AREP as referral-only. You keep your continuing education current to maintain it, but you're not actively practicing. Because it stays active, you can transfer it back to Ashworth Real Estate (ARE) at any time to resume active practice — no re-licensing and no starting over.
How do I send a referral?
You connect your contact with an active agent and let us know. We keep the process simple and fast — the whole idea is that sending a referral should take minutes, not paperwork.
What does the $50/month cover?
Your referral-only membership with AREP — a place to keep your license active and a simple path to process referrals. You keep your CE current on your own to maintain your license.
Is AREP only in Minnesota?
Yes. Ashworth Real Estate Partners is a Minnesota company and this program is Minnesota-focused.
